That’s why it’s so important to choose the right dip powder kit. With a good product, you can achieve a great DIY manicure at home.
Now, you don’t have to break the bank to get a great set of dip powder liquids. There are affordable options available on Amazon. But sometimes affordability can decrease quality. That’s why many people are skeptical of DIY nail kits like Modelones.
The Modelones dip powder kit is definitely not the worst dip powder kit I’ve ever tried. It shows some promise when it comes to ease of application. However, there was one stand-out negative that I couldn’t ignore when doing this Modelones review.
Pros & Cons of Modelones Dip Powder Kit
Base Liquid is Easy to Apply
The base liquid was surprisingly easy to use. Given the affordability of this kit, I wasn’t expecting the base to apply well.
However, the consistency wasn’t too thick. This made application easier since it wasn’t prone to bulky layers. I also didn’t need to do a ton of buffing to get a smooth finish.
Irritating Strong Odor
Where it completely lost me was the strong odor. As soon as I opened the activator, that was it. It was so overpowering that I simply couldn’t ignore it.
While dip liquids can have some odor to them, this was unlike other brands that I genuinely love. Even worse was when I removed this set and could again smell the activator fumes during filing. It was awful! This was a major pitfall!
After trying out other dip liquid sets during my Nailboo review, Saviland dip powder review and Azure Beauty review, this strong activator issue seems to be common amongst these Amazon brands.
Poor Top Coat Finish
In addition to the activator, the top coat wasn’t my favorite either.
Most dip liquid top coats dry in minutes. One of the biggest perks as you don’t have to wait long after finishing your manicure! However, the Modelones top coat seemed to take longer to dry.
Plus, the top coat dried with imperfections and wasn’t overly shiny. I followed my usual top coat application process which is basically foolproof with almost every brand. However, the Modelones top coat seemed to serve up a splotchy finish.
Overall, this kit is an okay choice for beginners given the price point. However, there are better options available at comparable prices. Plus, you don’t have to deal with the aggressive odor or mediocre top coat.

Although I’m not keen to recommend after this Modelones dip powder review that revealed the poor dip liquid application, their kits do come with a lot of great dip powder colors. While the dip liquids aren’t ideal, the dip powder comes at a great price for the variety.
